The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Response
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct vision.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete content from Ismailer's announcement:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To boost the outstanding advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, he starts with us on next week.
His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having spent the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in greeting him soon. We are all excited to persist observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.
David

Game Information and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a public demo. Then, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch explains. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, risks, and obstacles that evolve every round. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and pray your team can earn top ranking? The option is yours."
Project Ethos lacks an official debut schedule or consoles, but players can anticipate additional details as creation advances.
