The thrilling extended contest where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this represents the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
